Resin System Overview

Fiberr USA offers molded grating in two resin systems: isophthalic polyester (ISO) and vinyl ester (VE). The appropriate resin depends on the chemical environment, mechanical-performance requirements, operating temperature, required service life, and budget.

Resin forms the continuous matrix surrounding the glass-fiber reinforcement. It provides corrosion resistance, transfers loads between the reinforcing fibers, protects the fibers from environmental exposure, and influences the finished grating’s durability, thermal performance, toughness, and resistance to chemical attack.

Available Resin Systems

Isophthalic Polyester (ISO)

A thermosetting polyester resin based on isophthalic acid. ISO resin provides good corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and durability in general industrial applications. It is widely used where moderate chemical exposure and cost efficiency are priorities.

Vinyl Ester (VE)

A thermosetting resin produced by the esterification of an epoxy resin with methacrylic or acrylic acid. VE resin offers superior chemical resistance, toughness, and resistance to stress cracking. It is recommended for environments involving strong acids, solvents, elevated temperatures, or prolonged exposure to aggressive chemicals.

Selection Guidance

  1. Select ISO when cost efficiency is a primary consideration and the operating environment involves only moderate chemical exposure.
  2. Select VE when the application requires maximum chemical resistance, higher thermal performance, improved resistance to stress cracking, or extended service life in harsh industrial, wastewater, offshore, or marine environments.
