Introduction to FRP Molded Grating
FRP molded grating is a strong, lightweight, corrosion-resistant flooring material made from fiberglass reinforcement and thermosetting resin. It is commonly used anywhere traditional steel grating would be exposed to moisture, chemicals, salt, or harsh weather. Because it will not rust and requires very little maintenance, FRP molded grating is a popular choice for industrial plants, wastewater facilities, marine environments, walkways, platforms, trench covers, and other demanding applications.
FRP molded grating is manufactured in open heated molds using a wet-lamination process. During production, continuous glass fiber rovings are layered in alternating directions and fully wetted with resin, additives, and pigment. The panel is then cured, cooled, and removed from the mold. This process creates a one-piece grating panel with bidirectional strength, excellent chemical resistance, and consistent performance across the panel.
One of the key advantages of FRP molded grating is the wide range of options available. It can be produced in different mesh patterns such as standard mesh, minimesh, high-capacity mesh, stair tread, and fencing styles. Resin choices typically include isophthalic polyester and vinyl ester, allowing the material to be matched to the chemical environment. Panels are also available in multiple colors, surface types, covered or open-top configurations, fire-retardant options, UV protection, and different grit levels for slip resistance.
FRP molded grating is used in a wide variety of industrial, commercial, municipal, and architectural applications. Common uses include walkways, platforms, stair treads, catwalks, equipment access areas, sump covers, trench covers, marinas, parks, bridges, and corrosive process environments. Its combination of corrosion resistance, slip resistance, non-conductive properties, and high strength-to-weight performance makes it a practical long-term alternative to steel, aluminum, and wood.
