Fiberr USA offers several surface finishes for molded FRP/GRP grating,
designed to meet safety, durability, cleanability, comfort, containment,
and application-specific requirements.
Surface selection should consider anticipated foot traffic, moisture,
contaminants, footwear, barefoot use, cleaning requirements, drainage,
spill containment, and the required level of slip resistance.
Open-Grating Surface Options
Standard Surface
1. Concave/Meniscus Surface
The concave or meniscus surface is formed naturally during the
molding and curing process. The upper surface of each load bar
develops a shallow concave profile that provides inherent slip
resistance without an additional coating or secondary treatment.
This finish provides a practical balance of traction, drainage,
durability, ease of fabrication, and cost efficiency for general
industrial and commercial service.

2. Gritted Surface (Post-Cure)
A gritted surface is a high-friction finish produced by applying
grit to the molded grating after the panel has cured. The grit is
bonded to the upper walking surface to provide substantially
greater traction than the standard concave finish.
This surface is recommended where moisture, oils, process
residue, frequent traffic, ramps, or other operating conditions
create an increased slip hazard.
The standard concave surface is mechanically sanded or processed
to produce a flatter and smoother upper surface. This removes much
of the natural meniscus profile and provides a more uniform
appearance.
A sanded surface is easier to clean and may be selected for
architectural, decorative, interior, hygienic, or light-duty
applications where appearance and cleanability are more important
than maximum traction.

4. Sanded & Gritted Surface
This finish combines a flattened, sanded surface with a finer
grit intended to improve traction while remaining more
comfortable for barefoot or light pedestrian use than a coarse
industrial grit.
It is particularly suited to recreational and waterfront
applications where wet conditions require enhanced slip
resistance but user comfort remains important.
A covered surface consists of a solid FRP plate bonded to the top of the
molded grating. The cover adds approximately 1/8 in (3 mm) to the overall
panel thickness and creates a closed walking or working surface while the
underlying molded grating provides structural support.

5.1 Smooth Cover
A flat solid plate is bonded to the molded grating to provide a
closed, smooth surface. This finish supports easy cleaning, prevents
small objects from passing through the panel, and provides a
continuous working surface.

5.2 Checker/Diamond Cover
A checker-pattern or diamond-pattern plate is bonded to the molded
grating. The raised texture provides additional surface traction,
increases surface rigidity, and creates the appearance of
traditional industrial diamond plate without the corrosion or
electrical conductivity of metal.

5.3 Gritted Cover
A solid cover plate is finished with a high-traction grit surface.
The grit may be integrated pre-cure during manufacture or applied
post-cure, depending on the required texture, wear resistance, and
performance characteristics.
Covered molded grating is recommended for applications requiring a closed
surface, containment of spills or debris, separation between operating
levels, or environments where open cells are not appropriate.
